I am writing comments about the confluence of queer culture, economics, politics, sexuality, spirituality, and baseball—or at least, everything that now passes as “mainstream.” One of my terrible feelings is how insular and isolating being gay has become, although in our current cut-off society, probably not anymore than anything else. Which is really sad to me. I keep meeting too many queers who feel that they are Star Trekkies first and gay second, Christian fundies first and gay second, yuppy-capitalists first and gay second—anyway, the possibility of a real connection with someone else who feels, inside, the way they do is slight, but I’m not sure if they even know how they feel inside anymore—afterall, isn’t image everything?
It would be nice to hear if you feel this way as well, or perhaps you feel that you’ve given up entirely on anything to do with your “gay” self, and it’s just safer to hang out in your cubicle or over-priced apartment and watch the world dig itself deeper into the hole it’s in. Perry
